Oliver Vawdrey (Solo)

I love a wide range of music from the 1950’s all the way through to modern day pop. My songlist is a reflection of my personal playlists which ranging from Dua Lipa, to Frank Sinatra, to Catfish & The Bottlemen, to Carlos Santana.

My perfect gig would either be a full Indie set or a Blue/Jazz set though I do also have sets fulls of classic singalong songs (yes that dose mean Valerie & Mr Brightside…)

One of my favourite gigs have been a Blues set in Warrington. This was at a lovely pub that serves food where people had booked tables for the advertised blues night. Another was a wedding in Knutsford for a beautiful couple that I had met whilst playing at a previous regular slot at a bar in Glossop.

Taking Cover Duo

For the Taking Cover Duo I am joined by percussionist and jazz trumpet player Sam Ehret-Pickett. Sam is very active in the Leeds jazz and function scene playing with some of Leeds's top jazz bands including Ancient Infinity Orchestra, Fergus Quill's Big Band and his own project Amon Ra Collective. He is also a talented percussionist & can take the sound by adding rhythm to singalong songs & Indie classics & by bring out the trumpet to add another dimension to the sets.

From knowing Sam for over 5 years & from playing in multiple projected across multiple genres we really enjoy the opportunity to play live as this duo. Mixing my background in Indie & Blues with Sam’s background in Jazz has created a songlist & sound that sets us a part.
